AUGUST 17th, 2005 (cont.)
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - HOUSE OF BLUES

One thing I noticed about Atlantic City - There is an unusually high percentage of people in need of ambulatory devices like crutches, wheelchairs, walkers, etc. I've never seen so many amputees in 48 hours.

Josh wasn't able to perform Wiggly World for a few shows after he fractured his finger in NYC. We were all hoping he would be able to do it by the time we got to Ohio, but Josh was fairly certain he wouldn't be able do play it in NJ.

There was mention of DEVO's show in AC in several local papers:

Atlantic City Weekly
City Atlantic
Metro
The Press

It was my first time in Atlantic City, and it was nice to see a few familiar spuds like Steve Badamo, Rich Anderson, and David & Tara of Brainclaw. My favorite thing about Atlantic City: The fact that I was able to purchase bright green men's socks at one of the name brand outlet stores downtown. Hooray!

CLEVELAND, OHIO - SCENE PAVILION

DEVO returns to CLEVO! This was the start of a 3-day DEVO blitzkrieg on Ohio:

Aug 18th: DEVO performs live in Cleveland, OH at The Scene Pavilion
Aug 19th: Mark Mothersbaugh's Beautiful Mutants Art show in Kent, OH
Aug 20th: DEVOtional 2005 - Time Out For Fun! in Akron, OH

Quite a bit of local press was generated by the DEVO related events:

Akron Beacon Journal
Scene Magazine
Cleveland Free Times

Interview on Aug. 18th on HappyNews.com

The band and crew wanted to make sure that this show was especially good, since DEVO's closest family and friends would be there. General Boy and wife Margaret Mothersbaugh were there, along with the Casale parents, and a host of other brothers, sisters, nephews, grandchildren, etc. There was a whole lot of Mothersbaugh & Casale DNA backstage.

Other people from DEVO's past showed up to greet their old pals: Chuck Statler, General Jackett, Janet Macoska (who photographed DEVO in the early days), and Bobbie & Susan (women who both witnessed the birth of DEVO, and who both played roles in the Jocko Homo video).

The best part of the night was the fact that Josh Freese was able to use his injured hand enough to perform Wiggly World for the first time since NYC.

My nephew, Ryan Sisler (who lives in Painesville, OH), was able to show up and see his first DEVO concert. He brought his girlfriend Danelle along, and oddly enough, her last name happened to be Casale! We couldn't believe it and showed Jerry her license backstage. He said, "I don't believe it! I've never met another Casale that I wasn't related too, except in Italy!"

See these separate reports for the Mark Mothersbaugh art show on Aug. 19th in Kent, OH - and for the DEVOtional fan gathering on Aug. 20th in Akron, OH.

It was wonderful to see all my spud pals at the Ohio events (Scott Orsi, Jane Stucky, Andie Hammett, Prof. Von Marko, Tom Chiki, Alex Brunelle, Will, Pete-vo, James, Jade, Rev. abNorm Nihil (who got Mark's moustache from the DEVO crew after the show), Robin, Jimi Imij, Toth, Gary, Samantha, Malcolm, Tom K., etc...etc...etc..

Flew back to NC on Aug. 22nd - It was good to visit Booper for a couple days.

DENVER, CO - COORS AMPHITHEATRE

I wasn't able to attend this show, but Aaron Daniels was kind enough to donate some photos of the show & after party. (seen on the next page, Part 5). Thanks, Aaron!

Australian Fan David Day wrote a full report on his experience at the show.

The show was fantastic, from all the reports I've heard so far, and Magicyclops rocked the after party, as usual.
