The Grand Central Art Center at Cal State Fullerton hosted a fantastic reception & book release party for Mark's "Beautiful Mutants" project. This being Mark's very first hardcover book, everyone was very excited about its release. Hardcover - 288 pages with many, many color photos. Get more info on the book at the GCAC web site.

Also showcased in the same venue were Basil Wolverton's very influential illustrations (ie: MAD Magazine, etc.). A new Basil Wolverton art book was also unleashed at the reception along with Mark's Beautiful Mutants book. Basil's son, Monty Wolverton, was at the show to represent his father's work.

Many of Mothersbaugh's Beautiful Mutants prints were displayed and framed in antique daguerreotype frames, dating back to the 1800's. This was a very special exhibition of Mark's personal collection, which he as worked for years to amass, and none of the displayed works were offered for sale to the public.

A limited initial run of only 100 Beautiful Mutants books were available for sale at the opening reception. The rest will be widely available online very soon - hopefully by October, 2007. Keep checking the front page of the MutatoVisual site for the latest info.

Mark Mothersbaugh. who attended the reception with his wife Anita, signed his new book throughout the evening for the lucky 100 people who purchased one that night. He was very pleased to see the release of his very first hardcover book, and plans to release another visual art book with GCAC in 2009 (stay tuned for more details...!)

Over 1,000 visitors graced the opening reception, and many were treated to free frozen delights, courtesy of our good friends at Archie's Ice Cream.
