Gallery
is owned by Julie and Jerry Dale McFadden.
(You may know some of Jerry's
many music projects:
Jason
& The Scorchers, The
Mavericks, SWAG.
and Sixpence
None The Richer).
In
June 2000, Jerry & Julie thought they’d
try their hand at showing unique works by local,
national, and international artists in Nashville,
which is best known as The Music City. Nashville
is full of creative people, some of which are
art buyers, most of which would love to own
some original art but don’t have the pocketbook
for it. Their gallery quickly found its niche
offering affordable art to emerging collectors.
Located in popular Hillsboro Village, the gallery
is composed of one long hallway that connects
several rooms, which vary in size. The space
offered ample room for over 40 framed Beautiful
Mutants.
The opening reception began promptly at 6pm,
and it didn't take long for the gallery to become
completely packed with curious visitors. Mark's
February movie scoring schedule prevented him
from attending, unfortunately, but he did send
a few brand new prints that have not yet been
displayed on this year's tour. Another first-time
treat was the debut of Timbuk
2's Beautiful Mutants Messenger bags- 2
designs featuring Mark's mutant imagery on high-quality
weatherproof canvas bags. A limited edition
of 10 prototypes was available to the public.
The crowd was an eclectic mix of folks from
all walks of life and all ages, some who drove
from as far away as Kentucky and Georgia
to see the exhibit. Some of those folks over
21 helped deplete
three full cases of free wine throughout the
3-hour reception.
NPR radio did a feature on TAG Gallery the morning
of the reception, and local press gave the show
an immense amount of coverage.
Thanks to Jerry, Julie, and all the fun folks
I met at TAG.
I certainly hope to visit Nashville again soon!
